DepicT! Call for Submissions 
DepicT! is once again challenging creatives across the globe to show their stuff in just a minute and a half. Whatever your budget or genre, we want your short shorts. All you have to do, is come up with something distinctive, imaginative and engaging and enter for free online at depict.org to be in with a chance of winning £1500, some priceless industry exposure at the Encounters 2012 and beyond as well other exclusive prizes. The deadline for submissions is 9 July 2012, so there is still time to get your thoughts into film and submit. Stuck for ideas? Why not watch the winners from DepicT! 2011 at depict.org. Meet the new Short Film Programmer
Encounters is delighted to welcome Gaia Meucci to the festival team as the newly appointed Short Film Programmer for Brief Encounters. Gaia joins the festival after extensive experience working at organisations such as Edinburgh International Film Festival, Clermont Ferrand and, more recently, as assistant programmer on the London Calling retrospective at the Forum des images in Paris. At the festival, Gaia’s key responsibilities will be to select the short film programme for Brief Encounters and work with the Artistic Director, Managing Director and Animation Programmer on the delivery of all aspects of the competitive programme. British Animation Awards Screening
Wed 15 February 18:00, Watershed Bristol
Presented by the British Animation Awards, in partnership with Animated Encounters this is your chance to vote for your favourite film nominated at the British Animation Awards 2012! Having already screened two programmes, next week the festival will present the final installment of animated films up for the Public Choice Award. Help decide who will become triumphant and vote for your favourite animated film at the end of the screening. Read more



Clermont Ferrand International Short Film Festival
Managing Director Liz Harkman and Brief Encounters Short Film Programmer Gaia Meucci headed down to central France to experience the world’s biggest short film festival and market place.  Despite the lack of British representation in the market, the number of UK films within the programme was at an all-time high. To celebrate this Encounters hosted a reception to honour the UK talent on show and for an opportunity to meet Gaia for the first time. Congratulations to The Elaborate End of Robert Ebb for picking up the Canal + Award in the National Competition, and animated film Belly by Julia Pott which picked up the same award in the Lab Competition both of which featured at Encounters 2011. Encounters Nominated Shorts Season
Between March – April Encounters presents a special season screening the live-action and animated short films nominated for the 2011/2012 Oscars®, BAFTA’s, Cartoon d’Or and European Film Awards in partnership with BAFTA, Shorts International, European Film Academy and Cartoon Forum. As a festival which provides entry to all four of the world’s most prestigious awards, Encounters invites you to celebrate and discover the stars of tomorrow, straight off the red carpet. Krakow Film Festival- Call for Submissions
The deadline for submissions for the 52nd Krakow Film Festival (28 May – 3 June 2012) in Poland closes 10th February (tomorrow!) Films made after August 31st 2011 are eligible from the following categories documentary, feature and animated films in three competitions:  1. National competition open to films made in Poland between 30 – 60+ minutes; 2. International short film competition open to documentary, animated and feature films with a running time up to 30 minutes; 3. International documentary film competition open to documentaries with a running time between 30 – 60+ minutes. Films which were made before that date were due for submission until November 30th 2011. Aesthetica Short Film Festival – Call for Submissions
ASFF is calling all short filmmakers to submit to the 2012 festival which takes place in York 8th – 11th November. Films of any genre under 25 minutes are eligible to submit for a chance to win £500 among other prizes. A shortlist of the finalists will be included on the ASFF Sampler DVD, which will be distributed with the December 2012 issue of Aesthetica Magazine, an international arts and culture publication. This year the production and training feature film initiative iFeatures returns to develop a second slate of films by emerging talent. To help them deliver iFeatures 2, they are currently looking for an experienced Project Manager, with excellent organisational and project management skills to join the team in Bristol. Watershed Future Producers Internship
Future Producers is a unique opportunity for a group of 18 – 25 year old aspiring producers to get a foot in the door in the creative industry. Mentored by media industry professionals including Watershed staff, the Future Producers will dream and scheme the Fresh Flix strand for kids and young people (that will be presented by Watershed and Encounters in 2012) by creating a programme of film, music, poetry and animation. Animated Exeter
11 – 19 February
Animated Exeter kicks off this weekend taking place across Exeter 11th – 19th February providing a jam-packed programme, featuring work from celebrated animation luminaries to exciting new talent. Festival goers can watch over 100 animation films, in addition to attending workshops, exhibitions, industry master-classes, career-planning days, and prestigious award ceremonies including a chance to vote for their own favourites in the British Animation Awards.  The festival is celebrating it’s 13th year inspiring young people in the South West to develop their talent, share ideas and get a foot in the door of this expanding industry.
